Cowgirl Chocolates Review

 

Cowgirl Chocolates was founded by head Cowgirl Marilyn Lysohir in 1997. Her two favorite things in the world are art (she has a notable career as a ceramic sculptor) and chocolate. Cowgirl Chocolates…chocolates with a spicy cowgirl kick. She was the pioneer, one of the first companies to offer spicy chocolates in the world.

I was given a cute little sample box from Cowgirl Chocolates to review and let me start out by saying the packaging really adds to the feel of this product! Tell me this little red box adorned with a cowgirl and a silver cowgirl hat doesn’t make you feel special!! This is one of the best packaging of chocolates I have ever seen. It was so awesome that I didn’t want to unwrap it.

This chocolate is unlike anything I have ever tried before. It was AMAZING. This is no typical chocolate… its Spicy! Now I don’t just mean because of the red box, 4 of the 8 chocolates in this box contain some peppery undertones. When I bit into one it was a real surprise. It doesn’t taste like the pepper it tastes like an amazing rich chocolate but then bam the spice kicks in and my mouth is caught in a HOT chocolate explosion. Now the chocolates were spicy but the Habanero caramel was really hot, but like the chocolates the heat didn’t take away from the flavor. It added to it and made it that much more enjoyable.

I noticed one caramel was in a clear wrap. I opened the signature logo card which matched the color wrappers to the various flavors of chocolate. The clear wrap was indeed a caramel, but it wasn’t just any caramel, it was a Habanero Caramel. Yes, I said, “Habanero!” Oh boy. If you have never tried one of these caramels I suggest you do. The combination of spicy and sweet gives a surprisingly delightful flavor.

Overall, all of the truffles are delightful. I do fancy the spicy truffles over the mild truffles but that is a personal opinion. You may prefer the mild truffles over the spicy truffles. So, there is something for everyone at Cowgirl Chocolates. I recommend you try a sample of everything to see what you like best.
