Let's Go Back In Time

When I saw this phone booth, I had to stop. You don't see very many phone booths now a days. If you find one, chances are the phone part has been removed. I turned to my husband and we both started smiling. So many childhood memories... 

When we were growing up, a phone call was a quarter. We were always told to put a quarter in our pocket, just incase we needed to make a phone call home. We hardly ever used that quarter. There was never a need to use it. If we were looking for our friends, all we had to do was ride around the neighborhood and look at the bikes at the end of the driveway. Then we knew who was where. 

Times were so simple back in the day. You woke up, you ate and went outside to play. You were expected to be home before the street lights went on. You didn't call home and ask to stay out later. There was no begging. None of that. 

What were some of your favorite memories growing up?

Girl Scouts Easy Bake Oven

I was so excited to find an Easy Bake Oven - Girl Scouts Edition at our local thrift store! It's in perfect condition. I don't even think it was used. It didn't come with the little tray, spatula or syringe but that was okay. When I got home, I emailed them and they were able to send me replacement parts for free, I just had to pay $2 for shipping! So this whole thing only cost me $3! 

For Christmas, my daughter wanted some little kits for the oven so when I saw these Girl Scout Cookie kits.... OMG! This was perfect! 

I had this Easy Bake Oven growing up.

In fact, I still have it in my attic... box and all! 

This was one of my favorite toys growing up. I didn't need electronics. Or cell phones.

My #Crochet Messy Bun Hat

Many of you know I love to crochet. It seems that I can't crochet fast enough with all the cool and new patterns I am finding. This is my latest work of art. The Messy Bun Hat. My daughter has really long hair... Long enough that she can actually sit on it.  So when she has to put on a winter hat, it really gets tangled. This awesome hat is the best solution! 

My daughter saw me flipping though some patterns on line and when she saw this one, she asked if I could make her one really quick. I had her pick out the colors she wanted and got busy making one. I love that there is a hole at the top of the hat so her hair can get pulled through it and then either left in a ponytail or thrown up into a messy bun. 

I just love how it turned out and it's absolutely adorable on her!!!

Thankgving Glasses #Cricut

I love using my Cricut machine. I can make almost anything. I had an idea that I really wanted to make. 

I found this image online and made it into an SVG file so I could cut it. I didn't want to layer a drinking glass so I sliced it and made it a single layer. I just love how it turned out.

Mid-South Corn Maze - #Memphis

There's just something about a corn maze that makes getting lost.... FUN! We headed to the Mid-South Maze to try out their Corn Maze (October). As we got there, my daughter was SO excited that as soon as the car parked, she was ready to hop out. We reached the beginning and bought our tickets. We told her that she could lead us all the way through. Here's the maze we had to get through...

You can almost see the building on the bottom right. That's where we started. It was fun watching my daughter think very carefully as to where she wanted to turn. We did find ourselves walking in circles quite a few times.  There even was a time she tried following another family, thinking they knew how to get out of the circle we were in. Sadly, they were no walking in circles with us. We just couldn't figure it out. 

After a few, "Mom, I think we are really lost!" and several "Are they going to leave us in here all night?" we were able to put our thinking caps on and figure out which path to take (process of elimination). 

When we finally reached the end, the picture on top was the "jump for joy" pose she made.  Also, she was happy that she earned her Corm Maze patch for Girl Scouts!!! We just love Girl Scouts.

Let's Go Out and Do Something

 

 

     It's amazing how much time can fly. Whether it's from behind a keyboard or just working too much... time doesn't stand still for anyone. I found myself behind this computer way too much. I was missing out on all the fun stuff. I needed to take a break and get away from the keyboard.

 

     During this time, we have traveled so much! We went out and saw so many things. Don't get me wrong, I love blogging and helping people save money but I am a one person blog. I don't have people that come in and write articles for me. To me, that takes away from MY blog.

 

     I will slowly start to come back and post here and there. I will not only be posting coupon deals but also recipes, crafts and review locations.

 

So since I last posting, in February, here is what we have been up to!

 

 

We absolutely love the Memphis Zoo!

 



 

Here at the Memphis Zoo, you can get up close and personal with the giraffes! We get to feed them by hand and admire their beauty.

 

 

Has anyone been to Wild Adventures? OMG! We loved it and can't wait to go back next year. We went in May and with this being our first time there... we were blown away. There were no lines and if the kids wanted to ride again, they were able to just stay on the ride. They didn't make them get out and walk all the way around again. The staff was kind and courteous and they made sure all their guests were having fun!

 

 

We went to our friends farm and had a blast! They rode 4-wheelers, fed the horses and donkeys, grilled, roasted marshmallows, shot a bow and arrow and BB gun for the first time.

We made a trip to St George Island in Florida. We haven't been here in about 6 years. The waves were so rough (red flag) so we made sure to stay out with the kids and not go past our knees while holding their hands. After getting that workout (man those waves almost knocked me down) we went shell searching and found SO MANY shells! We filled up a bucket with shells and another with sand to take home.

 

 

Who doesn't like jumping in muddy puddles? My little girl does and I said... GO FOR IT! We had a huge down pour and when she saw that puddle... it was over!

 

 

Have you ever been to Discovery Park of America? WOW!!! This place was a location full of knowledge. I highly recommend making a trip here.

 

 

Haha, we even made a stop at Tennessee Safari. This place had over 3 miles of road to travel and so many animals to feed. They had Ostriches, Emus, Pigs, Deer, Sheep, Goats, Buffalos, Camels, and Alpacas just to name a few.

 

So as you can see, we went out and had a blast. School should be starting in a few weeks and I'll be able to dive back in and share things with y'all ;)

My Newest Hobby

 

My mother taught me how to crochet when I was little. I didn't do much with it then, but now I am making all these really super cute things for my daughter and she loves them.

 

Right now what I started to make was the Bobble Stitch Leggings. I found the pattern HERE and just absolutely love how they turned out. My daughter loves wearing them. She said they keep her legs warm in school! Yes, I know that's the object but coming from a 6 year old... she was wearing them because purple is her favorite color and they looked cute with her boots on.

 

 

Now it's off to make my next project!

Baking Up Some Fun

 

This week my daughter is "Student of the Week" and she gets to bring in her favorite snack. What I love most about this is that she didn't choose something that was store bought (not to say there is anything wrong with that). I love to bake and when she asked for Cake Balls I pulled out all the choices.

 

She had a million different flavors to choose from. She said she wanted to pick vanilla cake with pretty green chocolate. And those sprinkles.... let me just say there's a lot going on!

 

We had such a blast making these and we will have even more fun sharing them with all her friends!

Touch of Love - Can Holder

I came up with a clever way to store your soup cans (or other cans) in your pantry or stockpile. 

This is super easy and extremely fun to do with your children. 

Take any empty 12 pack case and a roll of brown wrapping paper. 

Once you have the carton wrapped... let the fun begin!

Give some crayons, markers, stickers and stamps to your children and let them have fun!

Once you are done, just fill it up with your cans! These stack perfectly on the shelf or the floor and you don't have to worry about falling on the floor. 

SCORE!!!

Hard Boiled Eggs in the OVEN!

For anyone that may not know, the BEST way to make hard-boiled eggs is in the OVEN! 

Place the eggs in a muffin tray so they do not move around, turn the oven to 325 degrees, pop in for about 25-30 minutes and remove! 

Not only are they tastier, but they also are much easier to peel!
